Corporeal Mime
Overview
Either a standalone class or a series of workshops designed to introduce people of all movement skill levels to corporeal mime technique and philosophy.
Course adjusted based on students' needs, interests, ability levels, and time restrictions.
This can be tailored to help students play with concepts of rhythm, timing, resistance, weight, hesitation, pause, and phrasing their movement. Mime can also help with clarity of movement/between movements, developing a movement score, or getting performers comfortable with "just" being perceived.
Classes can be short and recurring, or workshop style-- longer blocks of time with one or more sessions.
Designed to introduce students to corporeal mime and to tie the technique back into everyday life.
This class will show you a (most likely) new way of conceptualizing and moving your body, explore concepts of rhythm and timing, and discuss one theory of stage presence.
We’ll borrow heavily from the technique of Corporeal Mime, a type of physical theatre, but will filter it through the lens of everyday life. During our time together, you’ll learn a little technique, think with your body (or at the very least standing up), and interact with the other participants to create simple and heavily improvised 15-30 second pieces. We’ll also discuss how you can apply these concepts to your everyday life: be it presentations at work, or even just looking slightly more imposing as you walk into the supermarket.
This class will ask you to be aware of your body in ways you may not have been previously, and by no means should you expect to come in or leave with a mastery of anything we touch upon, but the experience will hopefully open your eyes to at least one new concept that you can take with you and develop on your own in the future.
No movement or acting experience necessary. If you have injuries or limited mobility, you are still welcome to come and participate in whatever capacity you are able, but may occasionally find that you’d do better sitting and watching certain things.
Fully customizable!
Whether you just want to get in touch with your body in a safe space, or need an outside eye to look at a piece you're working on and give you suggestions, consider hiring some outside help.
Private sessions are a great way to get all the attention you need and ask the questions you have without needing to worry about finding a class or monopolizing the teacher.
Movement Consultations are a chance to have someone with an eye for movement sit in on your rehearsal and give you pointed, timely comments to help you know how your piece is being perceived. This is also an opportunity to ask about movement scores that you feel aren't feeling good in your body (let me see how I can help make the movements more natural and connected), or to get some new options on things you're still not quite sold on.
